The Animals at Folly Farm Zoo

At Folly Farm Zoo, you will be able to see the only giraffes in Wales, and you can look at them at eye level from the giraffe heights walkway. Folly Farm is home to only one of 7 zoos in the entirety of the UK that cares for the critically endangered Eastern black rhino.

You will also be able to see other animals like penguins, lions, zebras, Bactrian camels, bongos, lemurs, meerkats, tapirs, Barbary macaques, squirrels monkeys and more. You will also get the chance to visit the aviaries where lots of different types of birds live. Some of the birds that you can find here are parrots, owls, cranes, herons, and pelicans.

However, there are also more unique and exotic birds that can be found here, like the turaco or the inca tern. You will even be able to spot a bleeding heart dove. You can also get a really close look at snakes and tortoises, crocodiles, sloths, and fruit bats. You will be just inches away from all of these amazing creatures, and you can even feed some of them.

Conservation at the Zoo

Folly Farm is very passionate about preventing any animal from becoming extinct, which is why they take part in various breeding programmes, and they raise money to help protect animals in the wild.

Barn

You can also head on down to the petting farm in the Jolly Barn, where you will be able to see and touch some of Folly Farm’s best-loved animals. The Jolly Barn used to be the farm’s dairy parlour once upon a time, but it is now a family favourite location where you can introduce your children to farm animals for the first time.

The Animals at the Jolly Barn

In the Jolly Barn, you will pretty much be able to find every farm animal that you can think of. Every animal from ferrets and mice to miniature ponies, horses, donkeys, and goats can be found here. You will also be able to see small farm animals like lambs, hens, and chicks.

The Animals at Percy’s Piggery

Just across from the Jolly Barn is Percy’s Piggery, which is home to some larger animals like llamas, alpacas, goats, and sheep. You will be able to learn about how these animals live and about what rare breeds are kept at Folly Farm.

Petting the Animals

There are lots of animals at Folly Farm that you will be able to pet, and there are lots of hand-washing facilities that you can make use of to wash your hands afterwards.

Vintage Fairground

The vintage fairground has more than 17 funfair rides, including dodgems, golden gallopers, the cakewalk and more. You will also be able to enjoy the waltzers, among other classic British fairground rides. The best thing about this area is that it is all under cover, so you can enjoy it whatever the weather.

Folly Farm is trying to keep the tradition of farms and fairs coming together alive. This fairground is a grand collection of historic rides that are ready for you to jump on. While you are riding, you can also listen to the music that has been designed to reflect the old-time fairground feel.

There will also be information that is attached to each ride, telling you the fascinating story behind it. All of these rides have also been restored with beautiful fairground art. Many of the rides that can be found in the vintage fairground will be suited for children of most ages, but there are some ride restrictions on some of the rides. Where possible, visitors with disabilities will be able to enjoy some rides too.

You will need to pay a little bit extra for the rides at Folly Farm, and they are not included in the ticket price that you pay to enter. While it is less than you would expect to pay at a funfair, you will still have to pay for each ride. You can set your own budget and exchange some cash for tokens that you can use to get on the rides.

Each ride will require a certain amount of tokens, and each token costs 50p. So, you can expect to pay much less for these rides than you would at a funfair or other attraction.
