My Story
Discover The Outdoors began as a blog dedicated to beachcombing. I had been bedridden for quite some time due to some health issues. My mental health had gotten worse because I had to stay in bed, which led to severe depression and anxiety.
I woke up one day and decided I wanted to go to the beach. Going to the beach for the first time felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I felt incredible peace, with the sound of the waves crashing and birds chirping and not a soul in sight for miles and miles. This was the first time in what seemed like an eternity that my mind had been quiet. I had finally discovered my happy place.
I began going to the beach more frequently, and one day while walking, I was looking at the ground when something caught my eye: a piece of seaglass! Then another, and another, and before I knew it, I had a handful. I was hooked from then on.
I’d had chronic pain for many years, but I’d also had frozen shoulders for a long time. I hadn’t realised it, but picking up seaglass was actually helping my shoulders unfreeze, and the pain began to fade.
As time passed, I noticed that my physical health was also improving. I was able to walk further, and discovering all of these amazing treasures on the beach was providing me with the much-needed dopamine that I had been lacking for years. I’m not sure where I’d be if I hadn’t gotten up that morning and decided to go to the beach.
As my health improved and I was able to do other things, my passion for castles was reignited, and the castle section of the website began to grow, eventually expanding into other areas. Who knows where the website will go? There are so many things I want to do and places I want to visit; all I know is that I will be eternally grateful to the beach for giving me back my life.
